Which supports are good with which adc

Lets just say I did awful, one of my worst games with Leona, the weird part being the mistakes I made weren't all that severe, mistakes like harassing to hard, causing us to lose the trade and be forced to tower hug till a jungler saves us. We basically just got outplayed and for some reason those are the hardest loses to swallow. I started to do this a lot when playing League of Legends as I had recently watched a video about elo hell where the guy talked about the only thing that holds players back is their refusal to take blame for their own mistakes in a game and blame everything else.

Having been consistanly stuck around elo last season with over games played in ranked, I had lost all hope of ever getting anywhere close to or for that matter.

Nunu having huge sustain and harass abilities allows vayne to lay back and CS all day and if engaged in a 2v2, Nunu gives an attack speed boost that makes Vayne tear through even the tankiest of supports. Not to mention Vayne being the strongest late game ADC in LoL, some people would debate Corki being the best late game semantics really.

Now to get to my question, I would like to start picking support champions that mesh well with an ADC. If you are unsure, I suggest you read my blog on support roles. Here I will include a short detail of the support roles along with the champion that best pairs with that support. Sustain champions are the healers of the game.

Their key role is to make sure their teammates stay alive with heals or shields. While the lane may be slow for the beginning of the game, these ADCs shine during the latecomer and having a sustain support will make it easier to farm up early. Engage supports are the tanks of the game, they provide the team the engage they need to start team fights, but also can set up kills for your ADC.

Leona, Blitzcrank, and Nautilus are strong engage supports with ultimates that can shut down the enemy team through a stun, knock-up, or a silence. Because engage supports are strong throughout the game, it is best to take advantage of their early game dominance.

This means that any early game ADC like Lucian, Xayah, and Draven will work extremely well with an engage support partner. Poke supports are exactly that, they excel in slowly diminishing the enemy's health, making it easy for their ADC to snatch a kill.

Poke supports have a slow, a snare, a stun, or some form of CC to follow-up with a spell and help their ADC do additional damage. Though poke supports are strong in slowly doing damage, they are normally lacking in survivability. With most poke supports being mages, it makes them fragile and easy targets for assassins.

Poke supports like Morgana, Sona, and Lux pair very well with Ashe, Caitlyn, and Ezreal because of their early game poke. The synergy these two have is amazing because their kits pair well with each other.

Nami's kit brings an array of abilities which make her a powerful support. Nami can engage and disengage fights with her Q and her R, at the same time her W, Ebb and Flow is a heal and a damage spell with the addition of her E giving Jinx a slow on her auto-attacks. When partnered with Jinx, not only is Nami able to keep Jinx topped off, but their spells pair well with each other.

There are many possibilities in creating good combos with these two and with Nami's sustain towards Jinx, all Jinx needs to do is farm and capitalize on those kill opportunities. When you are looking at synergies, understanding the spell capabilities of your support will allow you to pick the support that best pairs with your ADC.

While it can be difficult mastering every support there is, having your pick at a sustain, poke, and engage support can still work in becoming the perfect partner your ADC may need. Engage supports can fulfill that role because they work best with most ADCs most of the time, though there are those that work really well with having an engage support. Additionally, the increased summoner spell and item haste allows you to engage more often.

Maxing E is a priority due to the poke it provides. You can spam the ability in bushes so you get the increased damage effect. A couple of saplings and the enemy will be forced to back.

Q is maxed second for the area-of-effect crowd control and W is maxed last for the single-oriented crowd control. Your goal as a tanky support is to be the frontline for your team. You have a lot of lockdown in your kit, which should aid you in your mission of snowballing your ADC.

Pre-level six, you can flash in with W and follow up with a Q to allow your carry to easily secure a kill if the enemy is low enough. After level six, you can initiate with your ultimate and follow up with your basic combo. In teamfights, think about which carry is stronger. If the enemy team has the better carry, focus on locking them down. If your team has the better carry, peel for them instead. Leona is the epitome of an all-in champion. But her presence is terrifying and her crowd control gives you an opportunity to keep enemies at a safe distance from the carry.

Leona is the kind of support that can play the lane both aggressively and defensively. Her mere presence in the lane can force enemy laners into playing safer. Aftershock is the go-to rune for tank supports, especially those who have no way of getting out. Once you go in, you need to commit to your plays. The amount of CC you have should keep a target locked down and allow your team to burst it down. Demolish will help you take towers, while Bone Plating combined with Overgrowth will make you difficult to kill for the first couple of seconds of your engage.

The Inspiration secondary helps you have some extra sustain from biscuits and less cooldown on your abilities and summoners. Her W is one of the most powerful basic abilities a tank could want. It grants her damage reduction, armor, magic resist, and has some decent damage for the laning phase as well. Maxing E second will allow you to have your engage tool on a lower cooldown. Try to understand your matchup. You should aim to get to level six as soon as possible and look for ways to help your jungler gank other lanes or set up a gank in the bottom lane to secure a drake.

In teamfights, either be the initiator if required or peel for your carries by sitting behind and locking down divers. Sona is the latest support to become a contested pick in the current meta. She is here to stay due to how strong she is, but experienced opponents can exploit this pick by going for engage-heavy champions.
